Eagle's Nest Guide

Ascend to History: Experience the Eagle's Nest in Berchtesgaden Guide

Perched atop the Kehlstein mountain, the Eagle's Nest (Kehlsteinhaus) offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Bavarian Alps. This historical building, originally constructed as a teahouse for Adolf Hitler, now serves as a restaurant and a place of remembrance. A visit to the Eagle's Nest is a journey through history and a chance to witness unparalleled natural beauty. The Eagle's Nest was commissioned by Martin Bormann as a 50th birthday gift for Adolf Hitler. Completed in 1938, it was intended as a place for Hitler to entertain guests and conduct meetings. However, Hitler himself rarely visited the Eagle's Nest due to his fear of heights and the perceived threat of air raids. After World War II, the building was considered for demolition but was ultimately preserved as a historical site. Today, visitors can ascend to the Eagle's Nest via a special bus and elevator system. Once at the top, you can explore the building, enjoy a meal or drink at the restaurant, and take in the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The site also features exhibits that provide historical context and information about the building's past.
